Student Council Plans For This Year

Student Council has been one of the most popular and interactive clubs Nashoba has offered. In the 2020-2021 school year, there are currently 30 active members, but they are always looking for new people to join.

As we all know, this year has been difficult to create a sense of interaction and involvement with students. I reached out to senior Hayley Macdonald who joined StuCo in her freshman year and has worked as Secretary and President for the club. I asked her what kind of activities they have organized so far and what their plans look like for the future: “Our first event was The Senior Sunrise and we were so happy with the number of students that attended. It was a really great way to get the Senior Class together to kick off their last year at Nashoba.” This week they continued to spread the holiday spirit by doing their annual holiday light hanging by the entrance of the school building. Even though not all students won’t be in the building to enjoy the festivity, they thought it would be a great way to bring joy to the teachers and administration. Speaking of the holiday season, Hayley told me about a project they have been working on for this Month of Gratitude. They created a google slides presentation called Notes of Gratitude, where students can write an appreciation note to a staff member.

Looking into these upcoming months, Student Council is organizing a Food, Hat, and Mitten Drive to make these holidays a little more memorable for those who are less fortunate. They are accepting any new clothing donations along with non-perishable foods. If you’d like to make a donation, bins are located and labeled in the front office of the building. StuCo President Hayley Macdonald told me that “All donations will be donated to WHEAT in Clinton and we’d love to see all four bins overflowing! The Drive is also a Nashoba Cup activity!” The Nashoba Cup lets us express our school spirit along with helping earn points for our class!

If you are interested in joining StuCo, you can contact Mrs. Bailey for the Remind and Google Classroom codes for more updates on meetings and plans for the future!  If you are interested in a leadership role, StuCo offers positions such as president, vice president, secretary, treasurer, and historian. This year they have created new positions such as Student Representative to the Nashoba Regional School Committee and StuCo representatives. Meetings are held at 2:45 every Wednesday, and due to COVID 19 and the upcoming holiday season, meetings are held online instead of in-person.
