Interact/Community Service Club
President Will Clark, Vice President Camila Bernasconi, Secretary Grace Dempsey, and many others have spent the past year trying to get the Interact Club started by seeking approval from the Rotary Club, Dr. Graham, and others to make this happen. Camilia says some community service projects that the club has worked on in the past were volunteering in Soup Kitchens and working with Stop Hunger Now. Stop Hunger Now is an event where volunteers package meals to help starving kids around the world.
This year, they have planned a river clean up and a trip to Camp Sunshine. Camp Sunshine is a program where volunteers spend time with children with life threatening diseases. The camp gives support to these children. Camilia says, “Because the club is not only a community service club but also an Interact club, it allows us to get more funding towards our school and our community.” This club is an amazing way to help our school and the community as a whole.
At the club’s meeting on September 18th, the members came up with a lot of ideas of community service for people to volunteer at. Will always has a list of ideas for volunteering opportunities; he is a big contributor in community service events. The club also has visitors from the Rotary club come in and let them know what other events may need more volunteers. For example, The Bolton 5k. The Rotary club is “always there if we need help, with their help we can go through with our projects and really make them the best we can.”
Interact/Community service club “helps our school and community and promotes international understanding.” Camila explains, “Every year at Nashoba we have a Purple Pinky Day which is our International project, Purple Pinky helps raise money for polio shots. This year we are going to make the day a bigger deal and get the word out around Nashoba. We plan to raise a lot of money with the help of students and teachers.” Interact Club is always looking for new members, so feel free to join today!
