Nashoba track finished up their regular season last week, and will be heading to Fitchburg High School this Saturday to compete in the District E Championship meet. Two athletes from each event have been chosen to participate in the meet.

In years past Nashoba has done relatively well in this meet. Last year the girl’s team snatched 4th place and the boy’s came in 7th. However, the District meet is not seen as a top priority to win compared to Leagues, which occurred this past weekend.

The head coach for the Girls’ Team, Ben Langelo, elaborated on the objectives for this upcoming meet.

“We’re going to focus on doing really well in individual events, and a nice showing of the relays we’re running.”

Langelo also mentioned the importance of making sure the athletes do not burnout before they head into Boston to compete in the MIAA State Championship meet next Thursday.

This season, Nashoba’s teams have increased their depth and level of performances. Both teams have picked up valuable athletes since last year. Some of the new competitive performers have been Chloe Dewhurst (junior) and Makaisha Gonzalez (senior) for the girl’s team, and Luke Halbrooks (freshman) for the boy’s team.

Halbrooks will be competing in the high jump on Saturday. This will be his first time participating in the District meet.

“My goal for Saturday’s meet is to jump 5’8,” Halbrooks expressed.

While for some the District meet is a completely new monster to tackle, others on the team have been going for years. Junior Ashlyn MacLure will be competing in her third Indoor District meet. MacLure is going to be running the 55 meter dash and the 4 by 220 yard relay.

“My goal is to get a PR (personal record) in the 55 and hopefully beat my seed.”

MacLure also hopes that her relay team will place in the top 3.

The meet will begin at 9 in the morning at Fitchburg High School against all of MidWach league. Both teams will then be competing in the MIAA State Championship the following Thursday.
