The 3rd seeded Nashoba Boys Basketball team hit the court for their first playoff game of the season on Friday, against the 6th seeded Medway Mustangs. The Quarterfinals had a huge fan turn out, completely decked out in green, gold and white. Posters, newspapers, body paint, megaphones and all, the fans brought it, and impressed everyone with one of their rowdiest appearances yet.

Senior Captain Eric Demmer, who has shown success all season, has been one of the rallying forces for the team. Even off the court, Demmer sent out messages to get the crowd together, tweeting spirit- filled tweets, updating his classmates about game times, and thanking the fans for all their support.

“The fans were awesome on Friday!”  Demmer says. “I’m so thankful that they came out to support the squad.”

The boys played an unbelievably defensive game, however some of the players racked up the fouls. Still, the Chieftains piled up points on the other side of the ball.

By the end of the first quarter, Nashoba lead the game, 18-6.

Freshman Justin Peirce (this year’s bearer of the “HE’S A FRESHMAN!” chant) played incredibly, scoring 12 points for Nashoba. Senior Travis Macko put up 10, and Tony Kennon and Andrew Snoddy also contributed to the number on the scoreboard, bucketing 17 points (Kennon) and 16 points (Snoddy).

At half- time, the Chieftains had posted 33 points next to Medway’s 12.

This Friday night game marked the last home game for Nashoba’s seniors. Greg Cavioli and Ian Hart were able to squeak in some playing time at the end of the game. David Czapkowski also had the opportunity to hit the court for a solid amount of time. Joey Guerin was another, along with Alec Dempsey and Cam Jesson.

The third quarter rounded out with a score of 49-34, Chieftains.

It’s been 21 years since the Nashoba Boy’s Basketball team has won a playoff game. 21 years! The Chieftains were able to rise above the Mustangs, reigning victorious in the end with a score of 61-48.

“This is a great win for the Nashoba program,” Demmer says. “We are going to continue to play great defense with a lot of intensity and get the job done,” he predicts for their next playoff game.

The boys have made history, and will continue to do so on Monday in a 6:30 game against Concord- Carlisle in the Semifinals.
