From April 25th to 30th, 22 Nashoba students attended DECA Nationals in Atlanta, ready to present their projects with confidence and professionalism. More than 26,000 students from across the United States and seven other countries were competing, all looking for a chance at DECA glass. And for the first time in Nashoba DECA history, an international glass trophy was brought home, marking a historic milestone for the chapter and a proud moment for everyone involved.
Dulcie Chrystall-Dubois and Odile Berzonskis placed first in the world in their category, Hospitality and Tourism Operations Research. Dulcie Chrystall-Dubois, CEO of the chapter, states, “It was a surreal moment, I just couldn’t believe it. I wasn’t expecting it at all, and I was so excited for me and Odile, and all of Nashoba DECA!” Their first-place finish earned them DECA glass, one of the organization’s highest honors, as well as a cash prize. After months of research and preparation, the pair’s hard work paid off at the international stage, inspiring other Nashoba chapter members that this achievement is possible and encouraging them to strive for success through future projects.
Additionally, Ryan Carr, who competed in Community Giving Campaign, placed in the top 5 internationally, while Zain Khan and Malik Shannak earned a top 15 finish in Independent Business Plan. These successes reflect the dedication and ambition of Nashoba DECA members, further demonstrating the chapter’s ability to compete at the highest level against students from around the world. Their accomplishments showcased not only individual excellence but also collaboration and commitment that define the chapter as a whole.
Away from competition, Nashoba students spent time together at the breathtaking Georgia Aquarium, with many noting the dolphin show and the whale shark as their favorite moments. Additionally, the group enjoyed the Coca-Cola factory, where students tried products from all around the world and attended a close Braves game against the Tigers, resulting in a walk-off home run win. DECA member, Jacob Schwartz, adds, “I’ve never done more walking in my life.” Furthermore, several seniors in attendance enjoyed spending time with each other playing games and creating lasting memories during the trip. CFO Katerina Davis states, “My favorite part of this DECA trip was spending time at Olympic Park with the other seniors playing hacky sack, as well as spending time at the pool playing a card game called President.”
Overall, Nashoba DECA came home from Atlanta extremely successful and excited for the next year to come. This year’s ICDC trip reflected not only competitive success but also the determination and strong community that members built throughout the season. From first-time finalists to international recognition, this year’s conference marked an incredible milestone for the program and set a new standard for future competitors. With this new standard set, the question is, who can bring home the coveted DECA glass next?
