Although the Nashoba Boys Hockey team is one of three who practice and have home games off campus, this sport tends to have a full house regularly. The fans pack into the bleachers, bleeding white and green, cheering the boys on.

This season, the boys faced a change in coaches. Junior Trevor Sicard says, “we came into this year with a new head coach, Trevor Short, and have adjusted great to his systems. All the players step up and do their job to the best of their ability and that is why I think we are a winning team.”

Varsity hockey has a current record of 7-5-0, which is an impressive feat in of itself. The team started off the season with a home game against Fitchburg December 20th; resulting in a 5-1 win for the Chieftains.

The next game ended in a loss against Oakmont, with a final score of 3-8. December 27 resulted in a fantastic 9-0 win against Assabet Valley.

Watertown proved to be a challenge, and the boys walked away with 0-5 loss. Team motivation picked up and the players took home two wins against Grafton (8-2) and Lunenburg (4-3). Northbridge was next on the schedule and the boys played a close game ending in a loss of 4-5.

Ludlow followed, where the Nashoba boys squeaked out a 4-3 success. A match against Fitchburg proved to be a nail biter, resulting in a loss of 0-1. A second game versus Grafton ended with a victory, Nashoba finishing off with a 4-0 win. The boys went up against Hopedale on January 31st and took home a win with a final score of 8-1. February 1st housed a tough game, as the team played Oakmont and lost 3-5.

Veteran player and Senior Captain Hunter Boudreau says, “Since I’ve been here, the number of kids has grown every year. This year is the first year Nashoba Hockey has ever had to make cuts. When the seniors leave, next years team will be great! Brad Colvin and Bobby Denaro will be back for defense and Charlie Lamplough will still be in goal.”

The Hockey team will play Littleton on February 7th. Make the short drive to support the Nashoba Chieftains.
