World Wrestling Entertainment is a pro wrestling company that puts on weekly TV shows. These shows travel around the country and all over the world including the latest episode of Friday Night Smackdown airing live in Boston Massachusetts. Of course, being a massive pro wrestling fan, I decided to travel to Boston with my dad to attend this show.
The night of action kicked off with a tag team match between The group of Damage Control, Consisting of Bayley, and the Women’s champion, Iyo Sky VS. Shotzi and Charlotte Flair. Damage Control has been tormenting Shotzi throughout the past few weeks, even cutting off a chunk of her hair after putting her through a table. Charlotte is there because she interfered in a match last week between Bayley and Shotzi. The match was pretty mediocre and didn’t have a lot of flow in it. Not many memorable moments came from it besides a massive dive to the outside by Iyo and the end of the match.
Damage Control has 3 members, Iyo Sky, Bayley, and Dakota Kai, who is out with an injury. Dakota Kai was standing by the commentators when the former women’s champion, Asuka, popped up from behind her. This distracted Damage Control long enough for Shotzi to hit her finishing move on Bayley to pick up the victory. This led to a stare-down between the Champion and the former champion.
Then it happened: the Megastar LA Knight arrived at Smackdown. The crowd erupted with cheers, the loudest of the night. He has been in a bitter rivalry with The Miz, who is a movie star and TV host. He has been in such movies as The Marine 3-6 and his TV show Miz and Mrs.
LA Knight came down to the ring to cut a promo on The Miz talking about the segment on Raw where The Miz blamed his loss at Payback against LA Knight on the special guest referee, John Cena. He then brought an invisible John Cena out and fought him. LA Knight was about to challenge The Miz to a match the next week when his opponent, Austin Theory, and his Partner Grayson Waller interrupted him.
After a bit of an argument between the 3 of them, the match started with LA Knight out on top. Eventually, it led Grayson Waller, who was on commentary during the match, to attempt to interfere by distracting Knight on the Apron. LA Knight was able to overcome this, land his signature elbow drop, and finish Austin Theory with a BFT. Grayson Waller did try to attack Knight after the match but he got scared off. This has set up the second match between LA Knight and The Miz for this upcoming Smackdown on Friday.
At the most recent Premium Live Event, Payback, Finn Balor, and Damien Priest of the Judgement Day defeated Sami Zayn and Kevin Owens for the undisputed tag team championships. This left The Judgement Day on top of Monday Night Raw with every member holding a title belt. The Judgement Day showed up with the Tag Champions and Dominik Mysterio. They got into the ring to cut a promo against their challengers, The Brawling Brutes. Dominik tried to join in on the promo but he got booed out of the building. Throughout the weeks I believed it was piped in on the TV broadcast. It was not at all the crowd kept booing louder and it never stopped. It was probably the funniest moment of the whole show and my dad and I laughed so hard.
Then The Brawling Brutes came out talking about how they wanted a fight and how it was fight night. Pretty standard stuff. Finn tried to talk trash about how Butch wasn’t scary. Butch proceeded to break Finn’s finger before jumping the group. Ridge Holland and Butch took over in the beginning, getting a few near falls over the bad guys. However, Dirty Dominik came in and interfered while the ref was distracted.
This allowed the Judgement Day to take over. Butch did get a few hope spots in to try and tag his partner, Ridge. But after a big dive spot from Butch taking out The Judgement Day allowed for Ridge to get a massive hot tag on them which nearly pinned Finn for the title but Priest broke the pin-up.
Eventually, with Dominik’s interference again, The Judgement Day would stand on top, retaining the titles. But before they could leave, Bobby Lashly and the Street Profits, Angelo Dawkins and Montez Ford, came out to challenge the Judgement Day to a tag title match. It should be a really good match and I can’t wait to see it play out.
Now it’s time for the main event of the evening. Jimmy Uso vs. AJ Styles. Now unfortunately this match has a ton of different lore around it. Especially with Jimmy Uso’s side of the story. So I can’t cover it all in one article. This match came about after Jimmy tried, and failed, to rejoin his family stable, The Bloodline. The manager, Paul Heyman told him to take care of business with AJ Styles and he would consider telling the top dog, Roman Reigns, to consider letting him rejoin. Jimmy attacked Styles backstage leading towards this match. Last week AJ Styles fought the Enforcer of the Bloodline, Solo Sikoa. Jimmy Interfered at the very end of the match letting Solo win the match.
This was a very back-and-forth match throughout- Jimmy would get some moves in but then AJ would counter back with moves of his own. Eventually, Paul Heyman and Solo Sikoa came out to watch the match. Jimmy would try and impress the two but failed. Solo looked to attack AJ but Styles pushed him into the steel steps. Moving to the apron of the ring, AJ nailed the Phenomenal Forearm on Jimmy to pick up the 3 count. AJ would escape from Solo trying to attack from behind and walk up the ramp.
Finally, Judgement Day came down and attacked AJ from behind. This appears to be setting up a team between the two most dominant forces on Raw and Smackdown. This was a very fun show and I would recommend going to watch WWE when it comes around in November and December of this year. With LA Knight winning and a ton of fun matchups, I would give it an 8.5/10.
