Everything We Know and Fan Theories on Taylor Swift’s, Midnights

Taylor Swift left fans speechless after the 2022 VMA’s when she not only appeared at the event but also announced her 10th studio album, Midnights. Fans were shocked and excited to hear that instead of another re-record, the next Taylor Swift album will be a whole new set of songs.

Now here’s what we know so far, these songs were written during 13 sleepless nights of her life. Based on the album promo shoot the album will have a 70s theme, what that says for the sound of the music we can only guess. Swift has also created a segment on her TikTok called Midnights Mayhem With Me, where every other day at midnight she announces the title of one of the 13 tracks on her album, by way of a bingo random number spinner. As of October 3, Swift has announced 5 tracks: Track 2 Maroon, Track 3 Anti-Hero, Track 6 Midnight Rain, Track 7 Question…?, Track 8 Vigilante Sh*t, and Track 13 Mastermind

Along with Swift announcing song titles, fans have many theories about hints that she may or may not have left in these short TikToks. Each time Swift says the title of the song she picks up a red old-fashioned phone. But in one of the videos, she holds the phone upside down. Fans believe that this signifies that the song is a collaboration with another artist. Most fans are hoping that the artist featured on Track 8, Vigilante Sh*t will be Lana Del Rey. She also held the phone upside down for Track 3, Anti-Hero

Swift has made a few public appearances since she announced the album. First at the VMA’s, then the VMAs afterparty, ‘All Too Well: the Short Film’ TIFF Red Carpet, and the 2022 Nashville Songwriter Awards. For each of these events, she wore an outfit that pays homage to a past fashion statement. The diamond dress from the VMAs is reminiscent of the Look What You Made Me Do music video from her Reputation era. The VMAs afterparty look was reminiscent of the Wildest Dreams music video taken from 1989. Her TIFF red carpet dress pays homage to the 2009 VMAs when Kanye West took the mic from her during an acceptance speech, during the Fearless Era. And finally, the Nashville Songwriter Awards dress is reminiscent of the black sequined jumpsuit she wore to the 2016 iHeartRadio Music Awards, between her 1989 and Reputation era. These references to her past looks have sent fans into a frenzy trying to figure out what songs will be from what eras, and why she chose what outfit for what event.

Fans believe that the sky behind the Lover House represents Midnights. The Lover House is a house that Swift first showed fans in the Lover music video. Each room of the house represents a different one of her albums. With all the rooms of the house filled, fans were wondering what would be next. Well, now we have our answer in the sky.

Fans also believe that Swift will announce a tour. Her first tour since Covid-19 forced her to cancel ‘Lover Fest,” the tour for her 2019 album, Lover. But the only thing we know for sure is that Midnights comes out on October 21, 2022, and fans couldn’t be more excited.
