The Winners, The Performances, and a Little Bit of Politics

The 60th Annual Grammy Awards were aired this past Sunday, as many famous performers shared their talent on stage and expressed their political views in a variety of creative ways. The show opened with rap artist Kendrick Lamar, singing his top songs from his new album Damn, which was released this past year. Lamar created a powerful moment when he came out on stage with a number of soldiers marching with an American Flag as a backdrop.

Lamar was nominated for best album of the year, best rap song of the year, best rap performance and best collaboration and brought home five trophies.

Logic, another popular rapper, performed his song “1-800-273-8255.” This powerful song has created a lot of buzz as it’s main theme centers around suicide. The lyrics and over all message have been circulating with the hopes of making people  more aware of the issue in the U.S. Logic’s performance was quite touching as he expressed his feelings on this very difficult topic.  According to Billboard.com, Logic stated,  “Be not scared to use your voice,” he roared before continuing his touching speech. “To all the beautiful countries filled with culture, diversity and thousands of years of history, you are not sh@*holes.”

Both Kesha and Lady Gaga delivered moving performances as they both sang emotional songs. Kesha performed her new song Praying. Lady Gaga performed Million Reasons Why and Joanne. Audience and viewers weighed in with positive reviews regarding the singer’s performances as they could see a different side of these women’s talents.

The night wrapped up with the incredibly talented Bruno Mars. The singer stole the spot light with his performance with Cardi B singing their newest hit, Finesse. As they grooved across the stage with upbeat songs, Mars proved that he sure knows how to put on a great show, one that catches everyone’s’ eye. He took most of  the awards home that night, including best album of the year going to his 24K Magic, best song of the year, best record, best R&B song, best R&B album and best performance. It really was quite a night for Mars.

Overall, the Grammy’s was a huge successful night and brought people a different perspective from each performance. The stars got to share their opinions on a variety of current issues and displayed them in an engaging positive way for the audience to enjoy.
