Nashoba Field Hockey Takes Down Shrewsbury

With an undefeated season so far and a stellar record of 9-0-2, as well as qualifying for post season play, the Nashoba field hockey team is on top of their game. Standout performances this year have come from goalies Julia Straub, junior and Caylie McMahon, sophomore. More standout performances have been shown by Erica Spallone, sophomore, Natalie Brown, junior and Lauren Hill, junior. The team is also riding high on the wave of college commitments that have overtaken the varsity players, with four members of the varsity team having already verbally committed to Division 1 universities.

At the October 11th game against Shrewsbury under the lights on the Nashoba turf, the theme was a Pink Out, with the girls decked out in pink glitter and face paint, wearing their pink field hockey gear. There was a good turn out, making this one of the most highly attended field hockey games of the season. The team was prepared for a fight. In Central Mass, only the Chieftains and Shrewsbury’s field hockey team were undefeated. It was a big game for both teams and the results were very important for post-season seeding, according to junior goalie, Julia Straub.

The game ended with a score of 2-1 with the Chieftains in an exciting second half. Performances were strongest from junior Natalie Brown, who scored both goals for Nashoba with an assist from Jane Bonazzoli.  Goalie Caylie McMahon also had a strong performance, only allowing one goal in and blocking numerous attempts by the Shrewsbury offensive players. This game was important and helped Nashoba to determine their seeding for the post season.

The girls should be proud for their performances at the game, which was very exciting to watch with a fun theme. Best of luck to the field hockey team in the post-season, and be sure to check back here at the Chieftain Press for game-by-game updates.
