We’re Officially in the Future
“Hey, Doc, we better back up. We don’t have enough road to get up to 88.”
“Roads? Where we’re going, we don’t need roads.” Sorry to burst your bubble Doc, but flying cars aren’t quite invented yet.
After 25 years of anticipation, we have finally reached the year that Marty McFly and Doc Brown travel to in Back to the Future Part II. If you’re old enough to remember when this movie came out, you probably remember all the cool things they said were going to happen in the future. Even though the future was made up in this movie, some of the things were spot on, and others…not so much.
Although flying cars and hover boards aren’t exactly invented yet, some of the things from the 1989 film really did come true, and we use them everyday. The movie predicted that in the future we could talk to people through our TV’s and see their faces at the same time, like a video. Sound familiar? Skype? Face time? However, the movie also predicted that lawyers would be abolished; “The justice system works swiftly in the future now that they’ve abolished all lawyers.” Not true, but nice try!
Another thing the movie got wrong was the future fashion. For all of you waiting for double ties to become a fashion statement, keep holding out because the world isn’t ready for that level of awesome yet.
Even though the movie got a lot of things right and a lot of things wrong, the future as depicted in the movie isn’t quite the way the real “future” is. People of all ages can enjoy this movie and can find it fun to see what people thought the future would be like.
If you haven’t seen this movie, you have about two months to see it before the point is rather mute!
