Nashoba Robotics recently finished their tenth consecutive year strong with their performance at the Worlds Competition. Previous to Worlds, the team competed as FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology), in two district competitions in March, both receiving impressive titles. The Robo Chiefs are ranked fourth in New England and first in Massachusetts.

With the team’s continuous success, they earned a spot in the FIRST Worlds Competition and traveled to Saint Louis, Missouri over April break to attend. Their robot, which they called the “Redeemer” was programmed to pick up litter, recycle it, and then proceed to stack the recycling bins one on top of the other. Out of 606 Robotics teams, 40,000 students from 30 different countries around the world,  the Robo Chiefs placed 43rd in the Carver subdivision and was picked to join the fifth ranked team’s alliance which then brought them to the quarter-finals.

Although the team was exceptionally busy (working “from dawn until midnight”, as stated by attendee Cheryl Gallaugher), they still had time to meet other teams, listen to world renown speakers, and visit the sites of Missouri. They also appreciated everyone who supported them and allowed them the opportunity to travel and compete in such a prestigious event. “The team is very grateful for all the financial support and encouragement from the community this year that made it possible for them to compete in the district and world championships,” Gallaugher stated.
