Spring Music; Band Edition

Nashoba’s bands kicks off the new spring with a concert on Thursday, March 26th, in preparation for their performance for the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association’s (MICCA) festival on Saturday, March 28th.

Nashoba’s Concert Band will be the band participating in the MICCA festival, playing three different selections: “Americans We” by Henry Fillmore, “Redemption” by Rossano Speaker and  “Variations on a Korean Folk Song” by John Barnes Chance. These songs have a few solos, which include seniors Erika Rohrberg, and John Atkinson, juniors Dan Yapp, Josh Lieb and Tom Bunnell, and sophomore Evan Daisy.

Band director Mr. McCarthy talks about the challenges the group has had. “The concert band has been really challenged this year with their music and specifically focusing on the emotion of each song,” he states.

 Starting off the Concert on Thursday will be Intermediate Jazz Band, performing pieces “On the Sunny Side of the Street” by Dorothy Fields, “When a Man Loves a Woman” by Calvin Lewis and Andrew Wright and “Orange Sherbert” by Sammy Nestico. Advanced Jazz Band will perform “Brazilian Samba” by Ary Barroso, “Harlem Nocturne” by Dick Rogers and Earle Hagen and “Superstition” by Stevie Wonder. Soloists in these bands include seniors Zach Weber and John Atkinson, juniors Dan Yapp and Marcus Braudis, sophmore Evan Daisy, and freshmen Ben Fox and Harrison Carter.
Tickets for the concert will be $5 at the door at 7pm, and the MICCA competion will be held at Hopkinton High School and tickets will be $8 and are good for all three days at the festival. Good luck at MICCA!
