After week three of the NFL under our belt, I will be writing about my early prediction for the NFL playoff standings, and we will hopefully look back at this later and talk about how amazing this article was and how I got every prediction right.
AFC playoff standings
- Buffalo Bills as the number 1 seed in the AFC, gaining a bye. They are 3-0. They beat the Ravens in a very high scoring exciting game that seemed impossible to win. But Josh Allen, who looks like the MVP favorite, managed to come back trailing by 15 with less than 5 minutes left in the game. Having not scored less than 30 in three games, the Buffalo Bills are my clear favorite for the number 1 seed in the AFC. Past the number 1 seed is where the rankings get difficult.
- At the number 2 seed I’m going to put the LA Chargers. This one is definitely questionable because I think there are better teams in the AFC but they are 3-0. They defeated the Chiefs pretty easily. Justin Herbert looks very good and Jim Harbaugh seems to be turning this team around immediately as they look like a real Superbowl contender.
- For my number 3 seed I’m going to go with the Baltimore Ravens. The Ravens are currently 1-2 but they have lost to the Bills and Lions in 2 very close games and we saw a similar situation with the Eagles last year starting 2-2 and obviously going on to have a very successful season winning the Superbowl. This team is clearly star-studded. They’ve had a rough start to the season but I’m confident they will bounce back.
- At the 4 seed I have the Indianapolis Colts. They have had a great start to the season, 3-0 and not just against horrible teams, but either way Daniel Jones looks elite in that offense and Jonathon Taylor’s playing electric. Although I will say I’m not entirely convinced in the team or their defense but the AFC in general has not looked too strong so I like them at my 4.
- For the 5 seed I have the Kansas City Chiefs. The Chiefs haven’t looked too good so far this season, starting 1-2 and clearly not at the level they were last year, but plain and simple, they still had the best record in the league last year and made it to the Superbowl. They have an aging team and it is clearly showing. I’ve never been a fan of Mahomes and wouldn’t ever find myself rooting for KC, but I don’t deny that he is a great QB and with Andy Reid I’m sure this team will find success and become a playoff team.
- I’m putting the Pittsburgh Steelers at the 6 seed. I’m not a fan of this team. I think their offense is pretty pitiful but I do believe in their defense and also in their schedule. For those reasons and solely that the AFC just does not look good right now and the difficulty of other teams schedules, I feel this is the best pick for the 6 seed.
- At my 7 seed I’m gonna go with my New England Patriots. This might definitely be a little biased. But I definitely think they could sneak up there. I think this team has the talent and definitely has the schedule. I think the overall play of this team could improve as the team gets used to the coaching. And out of the teams I had to choose from I like going with my Pats.
NFC playoff standings
- Philadelphia Eagles at the number 1 seed in the NFC. They are the easy favorite but it’s hard for me to not put them here. They are 3-0 including their win over the Chiefs and a comeback to win over a very competent Rams team, plus they won the Superbowl last year and embarrassed the Chiefs. I do think this team took a step down from last year, especially on the defensive side of the ball and I would not be surprised if they have slips and fall from the 1 seed, but for now I’m happy with the Eagles at my 1 seed.
- At the number 2 seed I’m going to go with the San Francisco 49ers. This team kind of came from lesser expectations after a shockingly bad season last year, and I think a lot of people would think this 3-0 run is a hoax and that they won’t be able to keep it up. Although that very well could happen, I am a believer in this team and their schedule and I think they’re going to sneak up and take that 2nd seed.
- For the 3 seed I’m going with the Detroit Lions. The Lions are sitting at 2-1 and had a pretty bad loss to the Packers whose defense looks serious this year. But I really just think that was a bad game and I love this team’s offense. The offense looks so good and their defense looks great too, so I am definitely a believer in this and could even see them finishing as the 1.
- At my number 4 seed I have the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. I wish I could put this team higher as I am a big fan of Baker Mayfield and the rookie wide receiver Emeka Egbuka who looked amazing. They are 3-0 and Baker has had 3 game winning drives with under 2 minutes left on the clock in all three of those games. As much as that is very impressive, all three of those teams they beat all have bad records and honestly just looked bad. They have the Eagles next week and if they can come out of that game with a win then I can very likely see them being a Superbowl favorite.
- I’m going to put the Los Angeles Rams at the 5 seed. I really like this team and wouldn’t be surprised if they outshine this prediction by measures. They started the season 2-1 with a disappointing loss in which the Eagles came back and so I think the Rams have a great offense and a great defense and I honestly feel weird and bad about having them at the 5 seed. But the NFC is loaded and I think they will have some sneaky losses and the Niners will just end up having a better record.
- At the 6 seed I’m going to put the Green Bay Packers. Sitting at 2-1 they gave 2 very impressive performances against 2 very good playoff teams last year: the Lions and Commanders. Both with electric offenses, the Packers did a great job shutting down both. With the addition of Micah Parsons, this defense looks legit. The part that brings the Packers down for me is their offense. They just lost to the Browns 13-10 in a very embarrassing upset, I do not believe in Jordan Love and I honestly never have. I think he’s a system QB at best and the rest of their offense isn’t too impressive either, for that reason this team is the 6 seed for me.
- For the last and 7th seed I have the Washington Commanders. The Commanders started the year 2-1 only losing to the Packers. They were able to defeat the Raiders without Jayden Daniels but, depending on his injury, I don’t think this team can have the same level of success they had last year, especially without him. I’m a big fan of Jayden Daniels and I believe Dan Quinn has done a great job with this team, but I just don’t think the talent on this team is as comparable to other NFC teams. I still have them making the playoffs and they could definitely put in a run for the Superbowl like they did last year.
