It is that time of year again! Fall means football season, and football season means fantasy football. Many people participate in leagues and draft who they think are going to have a great season to help them win their leagues. Some people will overperform these expectations, some will disappoint. These are the biggest winners and losers this week!
Winner #1 Daniel Jones-QB
Many didn’t expect Daniel Jones to be anything special, considering his past few seasons with the Giants and winning a close battle for the starting job on the Colts. But, he silenced the critics and put up 29.48 points. Many people did not draft him, and he is left on waivers in many leagues. I expect many people to pick him up and keep him on their bench, but many might be skeptical about putting him on the roster and might wait a few weeks to see if he continues to keep up his play.
Winner #2 Josh Allen-QB
Last season’s MVP proved why he was the MVP last year, and he put up 38.76 points this week against a good Ravens defense. In a wild thriller of a game, Josh Allen stepped up big time for his fantasy owners and gave them a big help, especially in a week where many big-name receivers were major disappointments. Allen owners should be happy this week!
Winner #3 Zay Flowers-WR
Zay Flowers had a big week for his fantasy owners in week one, putting up 28.1 points. In a relatively quiet week for wide receivers, Zay balled out for his owners and might have helped a few people win their matchups for the week. Zay proves to be one of the biggest targets for the Ravens offense this year, and I expect him to have a good season for fantasy.
Winner #4 Derrick Henry-RB
Henry continues to prove that his age doesn’t affect him in the slightest, having a great performance, giving his owners 29.2 points this week. Even at his age, he still continues to have amazing production and is a great running threat in this Ravens offense. Henry thrives in the run-heavy offense that the Ravens use, and he will continue to put up great numbers even at his age.
Winner #5 Emeka Egbuka-WR
The Bucs ‘ round pick in his NFL Debut put up a great first start for his fantasy owners. He put up 23.6 points against division rival, Atlanta Falcons. He proved why he was a top pick and is going to be a big part of the Tampa offense while Chris Godwin is out with an injury sustained last season. Emeka Egbuka is a young star in the Bucs’ offense, and expect Baker Mayfield to connect with him more.
Loser #1 Joe Burrow-QB
Joe Burrow had a lackluster Sunday, only putting up 8.82 points against the Browns. Many expected Joe to have a great game, considering his last season’s stats; many thought he would put up a good start to his season. He disappointed many owners, and in a week of big quarterback play, he was very disappointing, to say the least.
Loser #2 Ja’Marr Chase-WR
Ja’Marr Chase had a very disappointing week, along with many other wide receivers this week. He put up only 4.6 points and caused many people to lose this week in fantasy. I expect him to have a bounce-back week next week against Jacksonville, but this week he is a big loser!
Loser #3 AJ Brown-WR
AJ Brown joins the many losers of wide receivers for week one fantasy. Putting up 1.8 points as a wide receiver is not going to win you any games. The Cowboys’ defense did a great job shutting him down and forcing him into a quieter role instead of the big playmaker we are used to seeing him be. Next week will be a bigger challenge for him, playing against the Chiefs, a team with a great defense. It’s going to be a struggle for him!
Loser #4 T.J. Hockenson-TE
T.J. had a very quiet week against the Bears. Managing to put up only 4.5 points. Hockenson is considered a great fantasy tight end, but this week, he was the opposite for his owners. He is dealing with a rookie quarterback in JJ McCarthy, so hopefully, he can develop some chemistry with him and help boost his fantasy performance during the season.
Loser #5 Cooper Kupp-WR
Cooper Kupp is looking like age is starting to play a factor in his production. He put up 3.5 points this week, which is unlike him. However, he is playing on a new team and playing in a new system, so maybe he can bounce back next week. But maybe Father Time has caught up with him, and he is past his prime and will take a backseat role for the Seahawks’ offense.
