This year’s Grammy Awards was one for the books. With wardrobe adjustments, incredible performances, controversial wins, impactful statements, and red carpet scandals, we certainly won’t forget this year’s ceremony any time soon. Let’s take a look at some of the most talked about moments from the 67th Grammy Awards.
Pop Singer Chappel Roan, a 26-year-old from Missouri, rose to fame this past year with hits like “Pink Pony Club,” “Hot To Go,” and “Good Luck, Babe!” Her bright orange hair, adventurous makeup, and incredible vocal abilities all add to her unique branding, and no one was surprised when she was announced the winner of the “Best New Artist” award at this year’s Grammys. When Chappel stepped on stage to make her acceptance speech, she made an unexpected statement. She said that if she ever won a Grammy, she promised herself that she would highlight the problems that artists face in the recording industry. She referenced her difficult experience during the pandemic finding a job after being dropped by her previous record label and called out labels for not providing up-and-coming artists with a stable income and a healthcare plan. Many artists stood up, including Benson Boone, a competitor in the “Best New Artist” category, and applauded her bravery and honesty.
Speaking of Benson Boone, he gave a memorable performance during the Grammy’s ceremony – and no, it wasn’t his backflips or vocal range that people have been talking about. Boone wore a sparkly blue jumpsuit (hidden under his suit until Heidi Klum and Nikki Glaser tore it off) which, as he stated on his Instagram story after the ceremony “was extremely restricting in certain areas.” At the end of his performance of his original hit song “Beautiful Things,” he adjusted the jumpsuit in the crotch area, causing the audience to ponder whether it was a mistake or on purpose. Turns out, the guy just needed a little adjustment, despite the moment blowing up on social media.
Next is arguably the most shocking moment of the Grammy’s, which happened on the red carpet before the event started. Rapper Kanye West, recently facing allegations of anti-Semitic comments, arrived uninvited at the Grammys red carpet with his wife, Bianca Censori. West was dressed normally, and at first, it seemed Censori was also wearing appropriate attire, sporting an oversized fluffy black coat. However, it all went downhill when West gestured for Censori to remove the jacket. Censori turned around, let the jacket drop from her shoulders to the ground, and revealed, well, nothing underneath. Censori wore a completely sheer, skin-tight bodice that served no purpose in terms of coverage. Her entire body was revealed. West and Censori were shortly kicked out of the red carpet for not only showing up without an invitation, but more importantly, displaying nudity in public.
Well, that about sums up the highlights of the 67th Grammy Awards. The ceremony was filled with amazing performances and many more acceptance speeches, but it isn’t Hollywood without a few scandals, now is it?
