As fall has entered our lives, and trees begin to change color, we all wonder how we can enjoy the season as New Englanders. Here are a few recommendations if you are looking for somewhere fun to go this fall.
In Stow, there is a great apple orchard that is kid and family-friendly. At Honey Pot, there is apple picking, hayrides around the orchard, mazes for all ages, and animals that the kids can feed such as pigs, goats, ponies, llamas, and bunnies. Honey Pot is in Stow at 18 Boon Rd. They have been named New England’s best since 1926. The farm has a shop where you can purchase apples, honey, apple cider, and many more goods. Some top picks would be the fudge, pies, which include apple, bumbleberry, and pumpkin, and their caramel apples that you can get plain or with nuts on it. They also have amazing apple cider donuts. Honey Pot is also not just apple picking; you can also pick peaches, plums, and blueberries when they are in season.
Another great apple orchard is Bolton Spring Farm. It is open from 9 am to 4:30 pm every day for apple picking. They have a pick-your-own pumpkin between 11 am-4:30 pm every Saturday and Sunday. They also have a good bakery where you can pick from apple dumplings, cookies, pies, turnovers, apple crisp, and old-fashioned cider-spiced donuts that have “been a crowd pleaser for over 40 years.”
Davis Farmland is located in Lancaster. It’s a kid-friendly farm where children can see the animals and where parents can also have an enjoyable time. There is food, entertainment, live music, etc. They also have a Mega Maze, which can take you 30 minutes to 3 hours to complete. Anyone over the age of 16 can go alone, but if you are 16 and younger you must have an adult with you. There are 8 acres and almost 3 miles of pathways inside the maze. There are also games that you can play to make your experience more exciting, this includes games like I-Spy, Candy Trivia, Axe throwing, Mini Golf Adventure, and many more.
However, if you are looking for more of an adrenaline rush rather than apple picking and seeing farm animals, Witches Woods is a great place to go with your friends. This may be a ride to get there but definitely worth it. It is located in Westford at the Nashoba Valley Ski Area and opens at 6:30 pm on Fridays- Sundays from September 27th to November 2nd. Tickets are roughly $50 per person, but if you are planning on going with a larger group you can schedule group tickets in advance as found on the Witches Woods website. When arriving you should get there about 15 minutes early so you don’t miss your ride! After your arrival, the hayride will take you through the woods where you will see witches, zombies, lumberjacks, crawling-looking creatures, and more scary characters. The driver of the hayride sits in the center to avoid the possibility of getting attacked by the scary Halloween characters making them less vulnerable. As you get deeper into the woods you will find a lot more thrilling characters that will jump out at you. This is a great option for a fun night out getting into the Halloween spirit.
Hopefully, you, your friends, and your family will enjoy some of these great local fall activities this season. Make sure to check out these small-town favorites, and enjoy the amazing fall scenery.
