Everyone knows that the holidays are very close, so I thought that I would share with you my favorite Christmas traditions. Christmas is my favorite holiday. I love spending time with my family and celebrating, and especially opening presents. But what I love even more than that is the traditions my family and I share together.
Of course, the first tradition is putting up the Christmas tree. My dad, brother and I always argue about when to put it up. I think it should be put up the day after Thanksgiving, my brother and dad think it has to at least be December before the tree goes up. Either way, when we put up the Christmas tree, it is a great experience for our family, and an amazing decoration for the house. I like to make the tree pretty with all of our blue and white ornaments, but my dad insists on hanging up all of the ugly ornaments we made when we were kids. I guess we need to compromise right? In the end, the tree ends up looking incredible and is always a good bonding experience for our family.
Another tradition we have is putting up decorations in front of our house. We have this one bush right in front of the door that we always wrap Christmas lights around. The bush is a little dead though so it doesn’t always look the best. We also put a wreath on the door of course. Lastly, we take out our Christmas door mat and put it right in front of the door. Overall, it ends up looking very Christmas-like and is always a great time to decorate.
Along with those traditions, we also make an oreo cream pie. I am usually in charge of it because my dad and my brother cannot bake. All it takes is 1 packet of chocolate pudding, 1 container of cool whip, and an oreo pie crust. First you make your pudding and then divide the pudding evenly into 2 containers. With the first serving of pudding, you pour it into the crust. That is the bottom layer of the pie. With the leftover pudding, you mix in half of the container of cool whip. You then put that on top of the plain pudding and that becomes the second pie layer. The last pie layer is the leftover cool whip. Then it is ready to go into the fridge and wait to be eaten. It always turns out to be something I look forward to during the holidays and is a great Christmas treat.
The last tradition we have, along with a majority of other families, is opening presents on Christmas morning. My brother and I always open up our stockings first, then we open all the presents under the tree. My dad has given up on taking photos and recording because I yell at him almost every time. I always love to see the joy and excitement on my family’s faces when they get all the things they wanted. It makes me really happy to have special moments like those with my family.
I hope you enjoyed reading all of my personal favorite Christmas traditions that my family and I share.
