Are you continuing to listen to music that reflects your seasonal mood? I hope so! If not, that’s okay, it’s why you’re reading this article. We are going to review all the new, and old, music that is perfect to listen to for this late autumn month in 2023. Music is the way we can express ourselves without audibly communicating, like how we dress, or what we enjoy doing, which are all huge parts of our personalities. Let’s see what’s on our top 5 songs for the month!
To all the indie rock fans, the musician Wyatt Shears, who makes up Enjoy and is also a part of the rock band The Garden, with his brother, has released the live version of his recent album, Exploited. This version of the album creates a more authentic sound with each of the songs on the album, making the listener feel more connected to the music itself. The musician also manages to prioritize the sound of the music over the sound of the lyrics, making the listeners vibe to great guitar playing and fascinating drum sounds to craft a perfect combination of intense and calm music. Take a listen if that sounds like something you would be interested in!
If you need music that is more on the sad side this autumn, there are always plenty of releases in the later months of the year that encompass forms of seasonal depression. Conan Gray, the famed singer who wrote the heart-wrenchingly sad song “Heather,” has released a new single “Killing Me.” This song has a more touching and sensitive vocal progression in the beginning, but as the song continues, it has a more 80’s feel to it with the beat and drum machine. The lyrics are his signature piece of sad music, but this song has a good mix of sadness and an upbeat feel that can be enjoyed by many different people with different moods.
If you’re a One Direction fan or even just a fan of Niall Horan, he recently released his version of “Something in the Orange,” the original song by Zach Bryan. Although Niall is known for his signature pop-style music, this change in tune proves to be very effective, as his voice fits the country vibe perfectly. This song, I would argue, is sadder than the previous one by Conan Gray, where Niall’s voice has a pang of pain while singing. It can make the listener feel like they’re going through exactly what he imagined while singing this for the first time. After gaining more popularity on TikTok, “Something in the Orange” became a hit, with sad country being a genre that can make even non-country-enjoyers cry their eyes out. Combining this with Niall Horan’s soft voice, it is surely able to make other listeners feel as serene as it made me feel when I listened to it for the first time.
An older song, “Change (In the House of Flies)” by Deftones, is another good addition to your seasonal playlist. It has amazing guitar riffs while also combining foundational drums and bass. This intense rock music can be enjoyable for many reasons! It has a good mixture of soft sounds with louder ones, making the flow of the song more intense as if you are watching something with a diverse plotline. A classic in the world of rock music, which can be appealing to all generations, old and young, depending on the taste of music that you’re into.
All of these songs reflect an aspect of fall that I find to be extremely captivating, especially in 2023. It’s important to remember that these are just suggestions for what you can add to spice up your playlists and not a requirement to listen to! Happy listening!
