The library at Nashoba Regional High School may be filled with books, but there are also many many more things to check out (no pun intended).
The librarians, Ms. Landry and Ms. Chaves are always welcoming, greeting every student with a question of the day. They are more than happy to help with anything students may need. From finding a book to resources for a research paper, they are full of knowledge and are willing to share with anyone who needs it.
Ms. Chaves has worked at Nashoba Regional High School for three years. She went to school at Roger Williams University in Bristol, Rhode Island. When asked what her favorite part of being a librarian is, she responded, “I think the students. [They] are fun!” Her favorite book at the moment is Bina: A Novel in Warnings. She said it is thought-provoking and thrilling. She highly recommends it.
Ms. Landry has been the Nashoba Regional High School librarian for 17 years. She started as a library assistant and then started her Master of Education in Library Studies at Salem State University. Her undergraduate is from Framingham State. Her Undergraduate is a bachelor of arts in Communication with a minor in Psychology. When asked about her favorite part about being a librarian, she said, “I love so many aspects of my job! I love the students! I love helping students find books to read and then talking about the books that they read. I also really, really like doing research and helping students find sources for projects. “Her favorite book at the moment is Project Hail Mary. It is a science fiction book. She recommends it because it is a story about connections, humanity, and the spirit of being. She says it is “an emotional, gorgeous story.”
The library has many activities for the seniors to do during their study period. The printer) is always available for student use whether it is for school work or a coloring page. There are preprinted coloring pages available along with colored pencils. If the period ends before the page is finished, it can be added to a pile for others to collaborate on. Students can also collaborate on a community puzzle set up in the middle of the room.
There is always an assortment of fidgets and games available as well. Aside from coloring, there are many crafts accessible to the students. Currently, Ms. Landry is in the process of obtaining old records for students to paint and decorate next month. In the meantime, there is a pumpkin painting activity set up.
Make sure to stop by and grab a book, do a craft, or just say “Hi.”
