“Us” Movie Review
Us, the new horror movie directed by Jordan Peele, started playing in theaters on March 22. Peele is an up-and-coming director in Hollywood and has directed movies such as “Get Out”, “BlacKKKlansman”, and “Little Fockers”. He has won several awards, including being the first black director to win Best Original Screenplay at the Oscars for “Get Out”.
“Us”, which stars Lupita Nyong’o, is about an uprising of doppelgangers from the underground who call themselves “the tethered.” The movie takes place in 1986 California, and follows a family enjoying their time while staying at a beach house intending to spend time with another family. As they are in their house at night, the families doppelgangers bombard them in the driveway.
Lupita Nyong’o was already one of my favorite Hollywood actresses to begin with and after this movie, she secured that role. I watched an interview of her explaining acting choices she made in this movie and how she prepared for the role, and it was incredible. She worked very hard with many different coaches for the movie and it shows. I give this movie 5 out of 5 stars because I believe this was one of the best horror movies I have ever seen. Mostly because of the fantastic acting and the complex plot. To really understand the movie you have to be paying attention. Nyong’o absolutely stole the show with her acting and it sold the entire movie to me. There could not have been a better casted role or better person for it. As a whole, the movie was outstanding and I am already planning on going to the movie again before it comes out of theatres.
