Following Trump’s promise while making his rounds with campaign rallies on Monday of this week, the President has deployed around 1,000 troops to the border between the United States and Mexico. Trumps response results from the migrant caravan that originated from Honduras in early October, traveling north in the hope to cross the U.S. border and gain asylum status.

Early this week Trump announced plans to send over 5,000 troops to the border, to aid the Border Patrol and 2,000 National Guard already stationed at various points of entry. This Friday, November 2nd, 2018, the first portion of troops were deployed, part of over 7,000 active- duty members the Department of Defense planned to deploy to bolster protection along the border.

The troops will be stationed in Arizona, California and various locations in Texas, increasing the presences of the military by three times the usual rate. All this, in preparation for the migrant caravan still more than 800 miles away from the U.S. border.

The cost of such a large deployment is still unknown, but it could be increasing soon. Earlier this week on Wednesday, Trump announced that he would send possibly 15,000 troops to the border to meet the migrant caravan.

However, as the week closes to an end, only 1,000 U.S. troops have been organized and deployed to the border, what is to come is still unknown.
