Oscars 2014: The World’s Most Famous Pizza Delivery

An American dream came true at the Oscars when a pizza delivery man walked to the stage of the Dolby Theater in Los Angeles with three pizzas ordered by Ellen DeGeneres for her elite Hollywood guests. Edgar Martirosyan, the famous pizza man, received a $1,000 tip for his now-famous pizza delivery.

The next day, he made an appearance on the Ellen DeGeneres Show and shared the details of the magical moment. He thought that, when they got the pizza order from Oscar producers, he would be delivering pizzas to some staff members backstage. However, he was led on stage and through the audience by Ellen DeGeneres and served pizza to Hollywood stars.

Martirosyan explained, “[Ellen] said just follow me, and I’m going and I’m on a stage. I was in shock.”

The biggest excitement for him was seeing Julia Roberts, one of his favorite actresses. “She was like my woman in dreams. I always watched her movies … it was something crazy — crazy to me to deliver.”

He left the Dolby Theater before he got his tip, but received a generous $1,000 tip during the Ellen DeGeneres show the next day.

“I passed a hat around, and I ended up getting about $600, something like that. Here’s some more. Here’s a thousand dollars, so you have a total of a thousand dollars.”

Edgar Martirosyan is the co-owner of the Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizza with Ararat and Allen Agakhanyan. The Oscars appearance helped boost business in all of their 20 pizzeria locations around California.

“All of our locations are crazy busy right now,” Big Mama’s and Papa’s Pizzeria owner Ararat Agakhanyan told the Los Angeles Times. “We had no idea that our pizzas were going to be on TV. We’re ordering supplies like mad, stocking up on cheese, pepperoni, sausage and boxes and shipping them out to the different stores.”
